New London Theatre

A theater in London’s West End, now called Gillian Lynne. The building opened in 1973 and was designed by Paul Tvrtkovic. It features Peter Ustinov’s The Unknown Soldier and his Wife or the musicals Grease, War Horse, School of Rock or Cinderella. From 1977, the theater was used as a television studio. From 1981 to 2002, Cats, the longest-running musical in the West End. Currently, the theater is part of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s stage network.

The theater accommodates over 1,000 people on two levels.

On 6th October, 1977 Queen shot the music video for We Are the Champions in the theater with invited fans. The director was Derek Burbridge. Four playback versions were recorded that day, and as a thank you to their fans, the band played a short set:
